The Art of Straw Marquetry

This chest is the result of meticulous manual craftsmanship using the rare technique of straw marquetry.

To create the piece, natural rye straw is dyed in varied hues; each individual stem is split, flattened, and carefully arranged straw by straw into an intricate pictorial composition.

The facade is hand-inlaid by the artisans of RUDA Studio. Wooden components are calibrated by hand and finished with a protective layer of organic wax. Inside, the chest is lined with genuine leather with a soft suede bottom, resting on sculptural feet cast in solid polished brass.
